Nudes

During his lifetime, Elias almost never exhibited his nudes, although thoughout his life he organized frequent evenings in which he would get together with other artists to paint from the nude. They would all contribute to the cost of hiring both female and male models. Elias’s nudes are much more than an exploration of the human body. They capture a mood and bring out the humanity of the subject. Unlike some artists whose nudes are an effort to understand how the human body worked, Elias was more interested in capturing the essence of his models. You are less conscious of anatomy and more aware that the person portrayed is a complete human being, with thoughts, hopes, dreams and regrets.
